The 2nd participatory workshop for Soil, focused on the Alentejo region, involved the participation of 13 scientific experts, public administration technicians, local producers, and businesspeople who, over the course of three hours, discussed the methodology for defining goals and targets for the sustainability of agricultural and agroforestry soils, considering the specifics of Central Alentejo. The working session took place on July 15th at the University of Évora.
The workshop is part of the Soil and Water 2030 project, developed by the Associated Laboratory CHANGE - Global Change and Sustainability Institute for PlanAPP (Center of Competence for Planning, Policy, and Foresight), which aims to identify objectives, targets, and recommendations for the management of soil and water resources, addressing the need to define mitigation and adaptation lines to climate change that inform public policies.
The project applies a co-construction knowledge methodology, to ensure, on one hand, the integration of multiple perspectives into the proposed solutions and, on the other, the engagement and commitment of the actors involved - from science, public administration, the private sector, and civil society. The Soil and Water 2030 project started in October 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
