CHANGE marked the World Environment Day with the roundtable "One Environment, Various Challenges, Many Changes" – a platform for dialogue on public environmental policies with contributions from various researchers and policymakers.
Over 80 people, including researchers and regional and local stakeholders, gathered at Herdade da Ribeira Abaixo, in Grândola, to attend the roundtable "One Environment, Various Challenges, Many Changes" on June 5, World Environment Day.
The event was attended by Manuel Heitor, Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education; João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Minister of Environment and Climate Action; and Maria do Céu Nunes, Minister of Agriculture. Representatives from universities associated with CHANGE also attended, including Ana Costa Freitas, Rector of the University of Évora; João Sáàgua, Rector of the Nova University of Lisbon; and Luís Carriço, Director of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, representing the Rector of the University of Lisbon.
Other notable attendees included Carmen Carvalheira, Vice-President of CCDR Alentejo; António Mendes, Mayor of Grândola; and Laura Rodrigues, President of the Board of SMART FARM CoLab.
CHANGE was represented by Teresa Pinto Correia (MED), Cristina Máguas (cE3c), and Rui Santos, from the Board of Directors of the Associate Laboratory.
CHANGE – Global Change and Sustainability Institute is the first Associate Laboratory in Portugal dedicated entirely to Global Change and Sustainability, integrating three national research units of excellence in this field: the Centre for Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Changes (cE3c), the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment, and Development (MED), and the Centre for Environmental and Sustainability Research (CENSE).
