On October 23, 2024, the CHANGE Associated Laboratory, coordinated by the MED at the University of Évora, organised the “Solar Photovoltaic Forum: promoting a balanced energy transition through multi-sectoral collaboration”. The event, held at the headquarters of the Alentejo Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR Alentejo, IP) in Évora, brought together 40 representatives from academia, public administration, NGOs, associations, and energy sector promoters, focusing on the challenges and opportunities for sustainable photovoltaic plant implementation.
During the forum, key themes for the sector’s balanced development were addressed, emphasising intersectoral coordination to optimise such infrastructures’ socio-economic and environmental impacts. CCDR Alentejo Vice-President Carmen Carvalheira, University of Évora Renewable Energy Chair holder Pedro Horta, and CHANGE Executive Director Susana Filipe underscored the importance of building strong partnerships between academia, the private sector, and civil society for a sustainable and inclusive energy transition.
Based on the discussions held, a Policy Brief will be developed, proposing concrete recommendations to support public policies that ensure photovoltaic plants are tailored to the Alentejo region and contribute to Portugal’s energy targets for 2030.
